@rocky5
very nice findings (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
i'll give driveimage a try tomorrow.

along with your findings and the "thoughts" about the filenames with numbers ( http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=492703 ), someone with the propper "debugging-setup" could and should come up with a fix in no time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Nice one Rocky5.

I myself only have a standard HD so no backup yet for me :-( even though I do have a softmod Nkpatcher setup.

At least your discovery should help crack the protection.

Right when you use the ISO ripper it split the iso into 2 files now with toca 3 you have one called race_driver_3-434d0050.part1.ISO then you have race_driver_3-434d0050.part2.ISO a default.xbe and a file called errorsectors.bin now i have found that on the HDD you dont need part2 and the error file to run the game fine now part1 is 4GB's and the second part is 2.6GB's.

you can run the game fine with just part 1 it run like the original no crashes all modes work and i dont think that the game check the size of the disc i think that if you patch the default.xbe file the game stops working right when you use iso ripper it dosnt patch the file it just makes 100% backup of the disc so this may be y it works fine iam currently burning a DVDrw with the first part of the iso to see if it will work i will let you guys know how i get on.

I'm slightly confused by your last post ?? You re-ripped it with different size parts ?

Are you implying if I have the 4GB ISO (first part) and the default.xbe (virtual drive xbe), then I could put them on a normal DVD -/+R... so at run time the virtual drive (default.xbe) would run which mounts the image which is also on the disc. Maybe you could try that?

edit.. stupid me, I see you already said you are going to try that.... doh

What happens with the ISO ripper.xbe when you pick it with the disc in the drive (retail) if the disc is over 4GB's it splits the iso into 2 bits i dont know y it dose it but thats the way the ripper works but i have a 100% backup on a dvd rw all you do is burn the Part 1 iso and the disc work a treat. but it now 4GB's in size rather that 3 but hey it works.

so we have a 100% working backup of the game all we need to do now is get the game to run off the Hdd with out virtual drive.

One question though.

Do I have to burn the image onto a cd (Nero -> burn image to disk/ Alcohol 120)

or do I have to make a new data compilation DVD with the ISO file on it and the drive-image-tools?

The iso is split in 2 because the max file size of fatx, like fat32, is 4gb.

Try ripping a dvd9 movie to your fat32 file as an ISO...same deal (except it might split it into 1gb chunks....)

If its just a disc file size check then would it be possible to just add 'dummy files' to fill a dvd5??

Damn savegame corruption!!!!

I hope someone's working on a decent fix for this because it just killed my profile before I had a chance to get to Bathurst with the V8's!!!

(Playing a DVD-R backup.)

See i dont think it is a size check becasue i just burned the 4gb iso file and it works fine no crashes now i dont know if they put a protection that stops you from copying the disc with dashboards see ISO ripper makes a 1 on 1 backup in xiso format and all dashboards do is copy the files over onto the hdd and then patch the default.xbe so i dont know if its just an unpatched defaul.xbe that you need or weather its when you take the default.xbe of the disc it dose something to it i will check to see.

right i have just found that it has nothing to do with the default.xbe i think then you copy the game some other file checks something could be the image size not sure.

I patched the default.xbe and put it back in the iso and work fine still 100% working.

rocky5: is it possible that the game does not check the disk size, but either the TOC or even the sector the xbe was booted from?

please check your PM.
