I am having a problem getting my xbox to read any of the games that I have backed up.  I have the v1.2XBOX with samsung drive and xecuter 2.3b lite.  The ONLY media I have gotten to sucessfully play a game backed up was the generic DVD+RW that came with my dvd burner.  I have tried Ritek g4 dvd-r's, maxell dvd+r, Imation dvd-rw all with no sucess.  After placing them in the drive the dashboard reads the media then says unknown.  If a disk fails i repeat the burning with the +rw that works just to make sure it was burnt right and it works fine.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i have 2 xboxs, both with thomson drives.  one reads better than the other.  to make things short and simple, u have to try out the dvds urself.  i can't give u a deffinite answer on which will work best, use process of elimination

This thread is really long and difficult to find information. I dont suppose somebody with a lot of time on there hands is willing to put this data into some form of spreadsheet?

I'm a noob experiencing problems with Verbatim -R DVD's. I have a Philips XBOX DVD and I've been burning with a TDK dual format burner using Nero.

If anyone has any suggestions on the best combination of hardware, software and media I would appreciate it.

Cheers

That's a lot of reading.
Everybody seems to have got something to work, and most brands work somewhere.

As far as I can see, Ritek are the most popular, with Princo's running close (due to price).

Can anyone comment on Princo's tendency to go bad over time (I have read many reports of this)?

thanks

Its strange how each DVD drive varies to what it can read or what it cant read.

A friend of mine has a Thomson drive, his one can read Princo DVD-R whitetops and the Princo DVD-RW but not my Ritek DVD-R silvertops.

My drive is exactly opposite..

Well.. one of those things I guess. smile.gif

For all you people stuck with Thompson drives you might wanna try

MAXELL DVD+R

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:RICOHJPN-R01-002]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc Type :              [DVD+R]
Manufacturer ID :        [RICOHJPN]
Media Type ID :          [R01]
Product Revision :       [002]
Disc Application Code :  [General Purpose]
Recording Speeds :       [2.4x - 4x]
Blank Disc Capacity :    [Not Supported By Method 2]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
[DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been struggling with all kind of media until i tried those.  Movie playback on Xbox is just plain silent, no darn noise.  Game backup worked 100% of the time and even multi game disk. And access time is great with no noise either.  Bought those at wal-mart for $8 for 5 disk.

Everything was burned a 4X with LG DVD Burner
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4040B FW : A302
and at 8X...yes 8X on a
Plextor Plexwriter PX 708A

well the memorex dvd now works, it was just my dvd ron couldnt read it (weird) so i traded dvd with a friend and all is good

memorex is expensive and sux... i wouldn't bother with it

Nice argument there.

How expensive is expensive?  I buy 25-packs of the Memorex (Ricoh) 4x for $30.  That's $1.20 each, shipped... for name-brand.

I keep seeing all these people buying these Princos for 80 cents each, then they say don't buy the cheap stuff.  Well, guess what.  If you are paying less than $1 per disc, then you are buying the cheap stuff.  Duh!

And Memorex sucks?

I have burned about 200 Memorex DVD-R 4x now, all purchased from the same place.  Not one burn or read error yet.  Tell, me... does the crap you buy for less money burn at a 100% success rate over a span of 200 discs?

I've started using the Bulkpaq 2x Gen 4 disks. They are the best yet that i've tried and for £1 a piece in the uk are pretty good value.

Where do you get these 2x Bulkpaq discs in the uk ??

Also, If I were to use 4x discs, would my game work alright ???

I know they are more expensive, but I'm willing to pay if it gets the job done faster..

thanks
