How To Install Uix On An Itools Or Similar Softmod
« on: January 08, 2005, 02:03:00 PM »

Well... I read xomp's tutorial and was frustrated when it said it was universal to all softmods. It was most certainly NOT, so I wrote my own on how to do it from an Itools UDE install. It was preformed on a 1.4 xbox with UDE1.

1. Download NKPatcher 10 from http://hometown.aol.de/devz3ro/nkpatcher10.zip

2. FTP to your xbox, and browse to E:\BiosLD

3. Rename Nkpatcher10 to default.xbe and replace the one in E:\BiosLD

4. Now browse to C:\ and backup any file in this location titled evoxdash.xbe

5. Upload uix.xbe to this location and rename to evoxdash.xbe

6. Upload the rest of the directories to C:\ regularly as outlines in the instructions of the dashboard.

UIX will now work on your Itools softmodded xbox =)

Didnt work.

Doesnt Itools make a seperate folder (e:\dashboard) for the dash instead of c:\evoxdash.xbe?

NKPatcher 10 gives me an error message without any error code.

If you are runing the dualboot:

Just go to the E:\Dashboard and rename it to E:\anyname

FTP your UIX folder to E: and rename it to (that's right you guessed it) E:\Dashboard

Make sure that the uix.xbe is renamed to default.xbe

Reboot your xbox. Voila! UIX will be your default dashboard and if you leave the tray open while booting it will boot to whatever your second dashboard will be (MXM usually)

Hope this helps!

First, lets get the record straight. Not having the balls to flame someone in there own thread and creating your own with flames on my tutorial is spineless and lame.

Secondly, NOWHERE in my tutorial does it mention Universal to all softmods. Infact, in my tutorial I mentioned that:

First thing’s first, I have no idea as to which/what exploit my xbox used for softmodding (done it long ago) and hope that someone could shed some light on which it is exactly by reading the descriptions in this thread (Please PM me if you do know so I can edit this thread accordingly).
It states that it is "ALL VERSIONS" meaning all versions of Xbox. You need to learn how to comprehend what you read before making an complete ass out of yourself here. Hooked on Phonics can probably help you there as your mommy didn't bother (apparently).

I have a god given talent, I got it from my dad.

PEOPLE! STOP! The directory tree is different DEPENDING ON HOW YOU SETUP IT UP DURIN lTools..... OKAY?

If you used Nkpatcher then it looks for C:\evoxdash.xbe
If you used a bios and Bios ld'er then it looks in E:\Dashboard\default.xbe

You guys are gonna to make this a problem if you keep telling people wrong.

If people can't understand where to put the dashboard to make it boot... then they're better off not jacking around with it.

JimmyGoon the only reason I added my comments was because I searched the tutorials and couldn't find any suggestion about how to make it work when your main dashboard was located on E:\Dashboard\ as mine was.  I had figured it out on my own and thought that if someone was looking for the information it would definetely help them.

UIX INSTALL WITH ITOOLS SOFTMOD

I did a UDE softmod on my 1.3 XBOX using the Itools AUF package...

In the itools setup , i used UDE1 exploit , PBLMetoo as the bios loader  and Evox as the dashboard.. X2 4981 as the bios.

... this is how i went about installing UIX with this softmod installed..

to install UIX as my default dashboard , I just had to understand how the xbox was running the dashboard.

on the e:\ drive of my XBOX was  a folder called Dashboard.

inside this folder was the skins folder and the evox.ini and a default.xbe file.

the bios loads the default.xbe located in the dashboard folder.

so basically.. i extracted the the files from  01.03.05.user.interface.x.dash.rar into a folder on my computer named UIX.

next.. extract the files from 01.03.05.user.interface.x.dash.audio.and.fonts.rar into this same folder.. it should replace the existing font and audio folders in the user.interface.x.dash folder inside the UIX folder on your computer.

once this is done... rename the uix.xbe in the UIX folder to default.xbe

next ftp into your xbox...

delete the files inside the e:\dashboard folder....

next

SELECT all the files INSIDE the UIX folder on your pc and copy it into the e:\dashboard Folder on your XBOX.

inside this folder now u should see 1 folder : user.inferace.x.dash
and two files.... uix.readme.txt and default.xbe

reboot your xbox and you should boot straight into UIX..

I made an autoinstaller for UIX that is designed for boxes softmodded with my "Another Gamesave Installer" UXE installer..  The UXE package should work on all boxes, but the UIX installer only on boxes modded with my UXE package.
To install the UIX you need only run a batch file with your xbox as a parameter..
