Scan D Then Locks Up

Whenever I try to scan the D drive avalaunch locks up and qwix times out.  I want to do this to get the size and nuber of files on the dvd like I can from the hard drive.  I am doing this from the "manage xbox titles" screen.  am I doing somthing wrong?
