And it works!  RecordNow Max 4.5 with the update to recognize newer drives, the discs play fine.  I still don't like the idea of having to use a "special" program to burn discs for the Xbox.  The problem still needs to be fixed, but a workaround is good enough for now.

The Pioneer 109/A09 will do it just fine with a modified version of Recordnow Max V4.5.

1.17 firmware does not fix the issue. DVD-R(W)s are still not recognized by the Xbox, but play fine in a standalone. RNM v4.5 still burns readable discs.
