If you are trying to connect the xbox to you're PC through a hub or router you would need to use a pach cable instead of a crossover cable.

Well I guess the lack of *power* might delete things in ram. Like the clock setting. So if I understand you the xbox wont get an IP unless you unplug it and boot it up. Meaning if you just had an IP and turned it off and turned it back on without unplugging it, it wouldn't be assigned an IP. That doesn't make sence.
But if the chord wasn't plugged in and you turned it on then plugged it in it shouldn't get an IP just 0.0.0.0.

Heres what I've found

I connect my laptop > xbox with a crossover cable, and I it down to a fine art....

Firstly boot your PC,
then boot xbox.
Open a cmd promp and ping xbox "ping xbox -t" It should reply "request timeout"
then disable LAN card, wait for msg reply "destination unreachable"
then re-enable LAN card...

and whola

OR you can do it this way

Boot PC and xbox together...
open cmd promt "ping xbox -t"
should receive "request timeout"
Now turn xbox off, wait for reply "destination unreachable"
then boot the xbox again...

Isnt it as simple as making the thing use a static IP? I mean, im using a HUB and all, so im not sure. Did you choose the "Use Static IP"? I know at first i skipped that, and even though i changed the IP, it wouldnt work. Dunno, for sure, but if your PC is turned on, and you turn your Xbox on with an assigned static IP, it should work perfect. Im going to go try this later....

*Firstly, you need to have a modchip switch.
*Second you need a Locked HDD
*3rd You need for it to boot into the MSDASH when your modchip is turned of.

if your booting up straight to evox, then live will no somethings up. As far as im aware, those 3 above are all necessities, although i dont have live, so i cant be 100% sure on that  biggrin.gif
