Thanks, guys.  Erexx allowed me to break through some major barriers with his post. What did it was comparing the xbox components to the equivelent PC component.  Now that I can think of it like I would think of a boot disk, command.com or msdos.sys file it is much easier.

So, if I understand correctly I can use either BIOS. You recommend the executor. The Dashboard is simply a program being run that can do whatever the programmer intended it to do. Everything the M$ DB does plus lots more. Correct? So the reason people are booting to a boot disk that contains the Dashboard is to be able to copy the Dashboard program to the Xbox harddrive so you dont need a boot disk in the future, right? And also to establish FTP connectivity to a PC since the xbox is still running M$ dashboard at this point and does not have FTP server.

I need to check if Slayers setup disk has the most recent versions of the Dashboard that it supports. If not, I wonder if you can simply switch the files.  OK, well, thanks for getting me one step closer. I probably was about to try to flash my mod chip with the evox dashboard. Not sure if it would have done anything but yelled at me, but glad to NOT find out.

Thanks a lot. If you find it in your heart to guide "closer" to where I need to go via PM or email I would really appreciate it.

Later,

Vanight

I am pretty sure I have an original xbox 1.0. I go to the area where there is copyright information and there is NO version number of any kind. That means its 1.0 right?

With that said, are there any problems/issues with running X2 bios on a matrix on a 1.0 xbox? If someone is eventually kind enough to connect me to these resources, I think I am ready to give this a shot.

Cheers,

Correct about uploading the dash so the boot disk is no longer needed.

There are several ways to check the version of the xbox you have.
One is manufacture date.
On the bottom of the Xbox.
If it was made "before" August 2002 there is a good chance that it is a V1.0
If it was made after 8/02 and the GPU is missing the Fan then it is probably a V1.1.
Xbox scene has a page that describes how to check xbox version.

x2_4973_v1.1 = New Xbox's
x2_4973_v1.0 = Old Xbox's
x2_4974 = Both

X2_v1_4973_xbox1.0_err_noani_blue_256k.rar

is what you want... the "notes" dont have to be in order.

X2= Excuter2
V1 = Xbox V1.0
err = advanced error codes
noani = no flubber blob animation
blue = color
256k = file size

You are correct:
Executer 4973 and Evox D6 look like the best bios's at this time.

Why would 4973 v1.0 not work on your v1.0 xbox?
Green=Good

EvoxD6* is fine...
*Boot file change bootfile v2 = try to boot c:/evoxdash.xbe,
if it doesn't work it will boot the standard c:/xboxdash.xbe

Both will work, its your choice...
