Hardwire Dvd Dongle
« on: December 07, 2004, 06:57:00 PM »

i have heard its possible to use the XIR eye with both the MS Dvd dongle and XIR unit. I was told that the xIR eye works on 3V in standby and the dongle eye works on 5v only when there is power. Could someone explain how to do it.

I've made my v1.6 xiremote and dvd dongle share a single IR sensor. As my v1.6 has a 5v standby power i don't need the 3v IR at all but it should be able to be done in the same way. There's 3 wires going into the IR sensor. 2 for power and 1 for signal. What i did was to make the xiremote power the IR sensor in whatever state (on/off). I split the signal wire into 2. One end into the xiremote and the other into the dvd dongle. At the dvd dongle end i used a diode in between to prevent current from back flowing. The 3v might pose a problem for the non v1.6 sets signal into the dvd dongle but most likely it should still work. Try at your own risk. I don't take responsibility for anything that happens to your xbox. If you have any more question just post and i'll try to help.

on older xbox .. u can use a chip .. a MAX619CA
that will 'pump' up the 3v to 5v
and thus power the IR reciecer with no problems :)
and thus using the original IR receiver ...

and what kelvar says is true :)
also with the diode in, it will prevent the pin#1 (IR activity) bein on all the time !!

i will will shorly be releasing/showing to the vboard my complete IR MOD ..
included a hardwire solution with NO relays !!
(tip, use a diode on the negitive line !)

Mick..

ok i now understand everything execpt about the diode which one should i get and i dont kno about the direction every. In my other post i was talking about a diode that on the relay so there wouldnt be a spike when i took out the controller not the in front of the dvd dongle. Also what are the points on the dvd eye in order power, ground, signal.

edit:typo
