RGH reset glitch hack

We’ll start this article by explaining what each concept is, and which one is right for you. To begin, lets look at the JTAG.

Introduction
The idea of the JTAG and the RGH allows the user to ultimately run unsigned code on their Xbox console. We are aiming to run the unsigned code on the Xbox’s NAND Chip. Think of this chip as your bios on your computer, but for your Xbox. It deals with all the boot-up commands and such like. Running unsigned code on this chip allows us open a whole world of different opportunities, for example, we can run games of an external Hard Drive, FTP to the Xbox and much, much more! However be careful, as some areas could be deemed illegal!

So, what is JTAG and RGH?
JTAG was the original hack used to run unsigned code on the Xbox. This hack was primarily software based, and had very limited use. Microsoft soon patched the bug that was exploited, and it is now virtually impossible to find an exploitable console. If you happened to have a console running a very old dashboard (less than 2.0.8495.0) there is a chance you can still use the JTAG. The RGH Hack on the other hand is a Hardware based hack, where a physical “chip” must be installed. The JTAG is only available on the old (PHAT) consoles.

The RGH allows you run unsigned code on *virtually* any console.

Brilliant you say! Hang on though… the RGH isn’t all that glamorous, as it can give  unpredictable boot times (can sometimes be hours!). The JTAG didn’t have this problem, however. The JTAG was also cheaper, as there was no need for a “chip”.

To conclude, the JTAG is very rare, and the RGH is the new hack to use to run unsigned code on your console. There are several different RGH chips available, the most common being the “Coolrunner” chip.
