A New Feature In Avalaunch
« on: April 05, 2004, 05:43:00 PM »

built in emus would suck, it would just make stuff load slower not to mention the fact that they'd have to compete with current emu porters which seem to have quite an advantage from many upon many releases
better ftp rates....it doesn't get any better than ava boost cuz the ethernet on xbox is only 10/100

i'm too lazy atm to go into anything else, time for some more splinter cell 2
later!

I vote for multitasking. Imagine playing Splinter Cell and copying files via FTP at the same time biggrin.gif

I love that idea too.. but I think we're gonna run into this problem assuming a standard xbox: memory.  Most games (I'm speculating here) would be programmed to use the maximum amount of resources available (in the most efficient way, we'd hope) to provide a great end user experience.. due to that, you might not be able to run a splitscreen with avalaunch staying resident in xbox memory.  Granted, I'm sure some games don't use all of the RAM, so maybe there is room for testing.

Course, thats not even taking into account the cpu, and hoping that running ava in the bg doesnt make the game too sluggish smile.gif

lots of considerations, but i still think itd be dope.  I'd love to be able to pause a game, press a key combo and 'drop back out' to avalaunch to do somethin real quick (whatever that may be).

obviously not a critical suggestion wink.gif

yah... i obviously didnt read page one first. smile.gif

if there could be a combined effort between bios hackers and dashboard makers to launch iso files then would the file name length protection used in some games become useless as the filenames are inside 1 file on the hdd? and the ftp transfer speed would be faster as its only a single file and not many smaller ones,
just a thought

FTP Client (FlashFXP)
ISO support
Winrar support

Might be interesting if you have all 3. You connect via the xbox to a ftp, download that rars. Let the xbox unpack the rars. And then unpack the iso in cases for games onto wherever you store your xbox games, and send videos to where you tend to keep em. That would be nice but a set of features I dont really need. But a nice thought.

Ftp client is already in, not flashfxp but a working client.
And iso support would not work unless by support you mean extraction,
and RAR extraction is probably only matter of time before its in there..
While waiting for those miracles try using complex tools, it extracts both rar and iso.. and avalaunch for ftp download, or grab the archive/iso with smb in c-tools..
This actually works and has done so for a long time!

-Toggle Progressive Scan Settings   <--- done and coming in next release
-Toggle Dolby Sound/Digital/DTS     <--- done and coming in next release

or find a way back to MS Dashboard, like eVox <--- just add a line to your avalaunch.xml

..did anyone mention true 3d-niceness?

Here's one.

Dash's already scan the contents of a newly loaded DVD, looking for the XBE to determine the disk type.

IF a default.xbe is found on the root, the dash should parse the file name of the program or game, and display it on the status screen, so the user knows what is loaded.

Small thing, but it could be handy at times (at least for me when I've forgotten what I've just burned, and don't want to boot it up...).

I'd love that too and doesn't seem hard or time consuming to implement!

Anyway, as far as the poll, playing an .iso directly would be cool.  Then a new dvd2xbox could be made that just takes your game disc and backs it up while patching as an .iso right to the xbox.

Absolutely go along with that one. Love to stream back to the PC.

And the ability to set the fan speed in the dash, with dynamic fan adjustment ala UnleashX.
