Homebrew for sure.

My xbox gets used more for XMBC and emulators than playing Xbox games.

QUOTE(Silkiwan @ Apr 14 2007, 10:33 PM) View Post

I think they should have ammended "homebrew" to just say "XBMC".  I dont mean to disrespect the homebrew scene as a whole, but XBMC is truely the greatest homebrew app that could have been made for the Xbox.  Here we are in 2007 and Apple comes at us with the Apple TV...  a crippled version of what the XBMC programmers supplied us with years ago (at no charge nonetheless).  I originally modded my Xbox for backups and emulators, but now it has a new job as the family media server.  All our music and movies backed up in one place, with full remote control functionality (thanks again XBMC guys).  So....
voted homebrew

XBMC is a good program, and it is by far the most popular but other homebrew apps have beenr eally useful aswell, not to mention some of the homebrew games which bring hours of entertainment.

There's also a big difference between a homebrew team offering a program and a company selling a product. For XBMC you need a modded Xbox1 console, which adds cost and effort to modify it, AppleTV is sold with all thats needed in the box, so you can't really compare the two, not atleast unless Apple try sellng the AppleTV software by itself.

Homebrew definitely.  My xbox was originally modded for modding Halo 2, but then I found XBMC and fell in love.  My xbox also serves as my backup server for my computer, considering it has a bigger drive, and thanks to XBMC that's incredibly easy to not only put things on and take them off, but also to use them while they're on there.

XBMC was used on my xbox more than  HALO + HALO2 combined. In fact I still use XBMC every day! Other homebrew such as Mario Wars deserve respect as well. I can't wait to see what we can do to our 360's in the near future! muhaha.gif

Homebrew is functional and gets a lot of use but in terms what I find "cool" I'm alwasy impressed with custom electrical and other kinds of hacks; liquidcooled consoles, custom controllers, integrated screens, wifi and other devices, etc.

I usually find that stuff much more interesting then XBMC and other homebrew projects.

'HomeBrew'  An OS  on a game console is just gay. The ability to run YOUR OWN software is what its all about, Case Modding comes in a fast 2nd. game backups, is old,

would be nice if xmbc was a full porn to PC, ability to integrate your software and games into it.

was torn between XBMC and case mod, but just as i was voting, my 10-year old sister and her friend comes into my room, and her friend goes; "whooa!! coool xbox, how did you make it light up??", and since impressing kids is always cool, it's case modding for me:)

"Coolest thing about console hacking?"

1. BACKUPS (obviously)
2. HOMEBREW (this is another big reason, primarily speaking XBMC since this plays videos.. and probably emulators)

the rest i overall dont care about.

case moding looks cool etc but it just aint worth shelling out much money to do cause all it's really for is "looking" at nothing more. (basically just braggin crap)

linux... i think is rather pointless to since you can just run that on a pc etc.... i think reason people like that is just something to tinker with and to "see if they can do it" sorta thing more than anything else.

XBMC.....  that should have been an option.  I love my flashed 360, but with my xbox1 with XBMC inside and a fat harddrive i felt i HAD to mod the rest (spray and design) and make it into an entertainment machine.  It stores a shit load of movies and tv shows, games and music, plus its networked to my PC which is networked to everything else.  I know the 360 can do some of the stuff, but this was pre-60 (get it....?) and truely gave me a nice machine.  But thing i've done with a console ever

(for the record what i did was to remove the dvd drive and add a big harddrive and recase it into a nice slimline pc case, kind of like a dvd player looking thing.  But yeah, best thing ever)

Oh, so voted for Homebrew, cos thats what XBMC is...........
