Have The Over Priced Xbox 360 Bundles ...

Yes, the bundles have been embarrassing - but expected.  It does increase the hype and gain more attention, which is necessary for MS to have a chance against Sony.

However, I don't plan on buying an Xbox 360 until it can be modified or unlocked to do more than just play next-gen games and DVD movies.  I am absolutely satisfied with my several xbox's used as home theater pcs throughout my home.  And of course, my stock xbox for Halo 2 gaming.  Now the release of Halo 3 may entice me to get a 360...

The core bundle is essentially a very smart move on MS's part. Anyone in the know-how has already reserved the Premium bundle. The core bundle is going to be the one for the holiday that's left for preordering at the video game stores, and the parents are going to figure the kids will bitch if they don't get it, so they dish out an extra 300 or so on extra stuff to suit the half-assed package.

I realize that m$ is losing money on selling these consoles, but $400+(premium bundle w/o extra controllers) is rediculous. I'll be waiting until prices come down to at least $300, or homebrews/cracks break it. MS already runs the world with wxp/2k/whatever else--I don't need to line old Bill's pockets with extra $$. After all, he makes a killing on games, and his company was founded on stealing Steve Jobs' ideas.

Don't get me wrong, I love XB, and the theory of what xb360 will be, but spending damn near $1000(gamestop bundles) on a game system and games is stupid--after all, I have a modded xb!!! Remember the hype, and slight let down of halo 2??? We don't even know for sure whether or not the machine will be bottlenecked by not having hd-dvd.

Just my $0.02. Take it easy!

I think the huge bundles are just crazy... 400 is almost too much for me, but I'm going to get it anyway.

I think $500 is a deal. Don't they lose money on every system they sell at that price and then hope to make it up in game sales?

It is overpriced and I am sour.  What MS does not seem to understand is that the Japanese care mostly about having the newest gadgets - not just great graphics, but great graphics with bells and whistles.  If they wanted to do well in Japan, gotta add a standard HD or blu-ray reader, gigabit lan, and 1080P.  Sony knows how to sell to their people.  MS should at least work on keeping its American crowd.  However, my American ass is put off by MS's marketing and pricing like many Americans.  I'm a big xbox fan.  PS2 specs can't compare with original xbox specs.  That's not at all the case between this next generation of consoles.  I will equally consider the PS3 and xbox 360 specs and price (and the way its going PS3 will probably win) a while after launch; eventually I will buy one.  Being an xbox fan, if the 360 were $300-350 for a premium system there is a good chance I wouldn't be able to wait out the war.  Time will tell which the best buy, and the modding capabilities will have a huge effect on my choice.  I feel more like they stripped stuff from what should be a base xbox 360 to make a "core" system rather than adding stuff to create a premium system; then they raised the price of what should be the standard 360.

I dont care how awesome the system is gonna be, I'm not paying 400 for it.  Screw the damn thing.  When it drops to 250 after a couple of years I'll buy it, or when Smartxx releases their chip for it.

MS looses money on every console sold at launch.  From that point of view it can't be overpriced.  However, at launch we don't get to use the full potential of the machine; that is until game developers figure out how to take full advantage of it.  It seems to me that nobody wins until a while after launch.  By the time games start really taking full advantage of the console, hopefully the price will be reasonable to everyone.  That is when to buy.  Unless, of course, you can easily afford it or don't mind working hard for a console that software may or may not be able to take advantage of.  I work hard for my money, quite a bit harder than nagging my parents would be.
