What Exactly Is Possible Audio/video Under Linux On Ps3?
« on: January 08, 2007, 12:57:00 PM »

Hi all.

No, I'm not asking what Linux itself is capable of, BUT since there IS a limitation on exactly what linux can access on the box I am wondering :

Can we output "anything" on the HDMI output? With "anything" I mean - can we set it to 720p ? 1080i ? 1080p ? Or is it limited to one resolution set by the OS ?

Then the other thing - audio. Can we send sound out via the s/pdif output? If so, stereo? mono? ac3? dts? anything we want? Or are we limited in some way ?

I'm talking about what it will LET us (if we have a driver) - not what is currently possible (we might not HAVE a driver).

I tried searching a bit but I didn't find anything yet. And I'd try stuff myself but I don't have a PS3 yet - they don't release over here until march.

Also - I'm not talking about codecs or anything to that effect. I know perfectly well what I can do with a Linux box not am I discussing any particular distro (current or future).
