Problems After Replacing 60gb Laser
« on: September 30, 2010, 11:14:00 AM »

Hi guys, I bought a ps3 last night with a broken laser.  I switched it out as I have done many times before but now I have a new problem.  When I put in a disc it just spins but never reads it.  I have left it spinning for 30+ minutes and still nothing.  I've noticed that when I put in a dvd I'll see the red laser at the edge of the disc but it just stays there and eventually shuts off.  Anyone run into this problem before?

I had 2 spare lasers already in the assembly that I tried and the both had the same problem.  How do I do a hard reset on the drive?  Thanks!

Yes, I replaced a KES-400a with another KES-400a.  I tried hard reset, drive reset holding the eject key for 10 seconds, I also tried every option in the recovery mode menu but still no luck.  I'm starting to think it's the actual drive board that is faulty.

that's definitely the driveboard failed since as you say you tried all the other options I was about to tell you.....obtain a multitester and check to see if the components went up in value or blown

I bought it off a local classified ad.  Another problem I'm having is with loading homebrew.  I have an AVRKEY that I tested on my 80GB so I know it works but when I run it on the 60gb I just bought snes emulator, backup manager and other homebrew doesn't work.  When I try to launch it I just get a black screen.

That definitely means the logic board is broken or is not the original one that came with that PS3. If you don't have a working or original logic board, you won't be able to load any homebrew with the jailbreak.
