Return it. It should not do that at all. If you keep it it will fail again.
Beating the hell out of it is not a clever idea either. You will cause more problems than you resolve.

Yeah, it worked perfect for 6+ hrs, next morning same problem. i returned it, just think its funny ps3's blow up just about as often as 360's. i just got another with a bad laser
