Ps3 Apparently Dead Power Supply.. Options?
« on: July 13, 2009, 12:58:00 PM »

What are some of the things I can check on a PS3 power supply to see if it's dead, why it's dead and if it's ressurectuable (Is that even a word?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif))

Also, is there any alternative PSU options for the PS3, IE an ATX PSU, etc etc?

Thanx

Another question on the PS3 PSU..

When I disassembled the PSU, I found 2 little PCBs screwed onto the inside of the PSU cover.

They don't appear to have any circuitry or components on them.  Was wondering if anyone might know what they are for..

I doubt they have anything to do with the PSU allegedly being dead, but I am just curious.

Problem solved...

I got ahold of another, identical unit.  Started swapping out parts to troubleshoot...

Power Supply worked fine..  Hmmm... That's wierd...

Power/Eject PCB.... Check...

Could it be???  Naaaw, it couldn't be...

Sure enough..  The little cellophane ribbon cable that connects the P/E PCB to the Motherboard had breaks in the fingers.  I trimmed the cellophane and..  VIOLA....

Booting up just fine.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Just a heads up for anyone that might develop the same problem.
