Streaming Without A Server?
« on: December 27, 2007, 02:40:00 PM »

I have just got a PS3, mainly for streaming, and have come from the world of XBOX 1 and XBMC.

With XBMC I simply set up an SMB share on the PC and can access it directly with no server software required.

I have TVersity setup and working with divx files (with no transcoding) on the PS3 but it seems pretty flaky (locks up on fast forwarding, files sometimes there and sometimes not, sometimes they play and sometimes 'unknown format'). When all I want to do is stream it just gets in the way. I have a gigabit wired LAN so bandwidth is not the issue.

Is a similar setup to my XBMC configuration possible with the PS3 or do I *have* to use a server app like TVersity or Nero? If so is Nero any better?
