Blu-ray Burner Available
« on: May 18, 2006, 04:10:00 PM »

saw this on Engadget.com (also the link to the burner)

sooo basically... it costs 1000 bucks just for the BURNER (thats only the drive it is not a player)

and the blank bd-r discs cost 25$ for a single-layer 25Gb disc and 48$ for the dual layer 50Gb disc

Note: i put this topic here in X360 general because it isnt ps3 related so i dunno if it is moved

That is the burner to make copies of the game. It is not in-cluded in every ps3. The ps3 drive is a Bluray player

WOOOWWW....who would pay $1000 to burn a $25/$48 blu-ray disk at 2X ohmy.gif. I could buy a 100pk of DVD+Rs for the price of one blu-ray disk.

^^^
hence, its failure. Same as HD-DVD.
People took a while to go to DVD from VHS or CD from cassette. People only did cause they didn't have to rewind.

Who has seen A Clockwork Orange where Kubrick guessed those mini-cassettes would be the medium of the future? biggrin.gif Boy, he was way off!

everyone complains about the implementation of a BR drive. but in fact its also an extra piracy protection if we see those prices. imagine an identical hack as the current 360 hack. no one would be able to use it because of BR.
