Not strictly true, but I dont understand it either.

You could just FTP all aps and games to the xbox.

Some people just downlaod all there games from the internet(which you should not do). But anyways, that is why they wouldn't "need" a dvd drive, I would still prefer to have one though.

some people also have a second xbox they use to read games (then FTP them to the dvd-less xbox)

ok how can people go completely hdd dependent? you need to copy games to the hdd using a dvd plus its a good way to put media and programs onto the box.
