Sony: No Video Sharing in Home Beta

Remember how you were going to be able to invite other PlayStation 3 owners to your virtual apartment in Home, then watch videos together? That's not happening, at least not in the "open beta."

I got a demo of the latest beta version of PlayStation Home, Sony's upcoming PS3 virtual world, Tuesday. My full impressions are coming soon, but the biggest news to come out of our conversation was that the video-sharing feature has been killed, at least for the first public release of Home this fall.

yea, why bust open a massive feature right outta the bag? i hope they introduce this, but it would be better to fully have it 100% and also, like ranger said...i can forsee alot of 40 yr olds living with there moms to be *sharing* collections with other lonely 40 yr old friends who work as 7/11 employee's.

Or better yet, 20-something year olds that meet a 20-something year old online, and wanna link up and chat and stuff.

Maybe you've never explored that side of the internet (or just don't believe that many females are ever going to be PS3 owners), but I've met plenty of females online, and sometimes we want a more "adult" themed conversation, etc.

Or maybe I want to hit up my best friend, and discuss some things about our website, and just want the chat to be private.

Either way, there's nothing 40 and lonely about either of those scenarios smile.gif

Very true, but i for see a whole new wave of movie viewing so to speak, I'd like to see what Sony will do about a group of people all watching the latest bootleg movie

This feature looks like it had been pulled just like the sharing features of PlayTV.

It was originally thought that PlayTV would allow video to be moved freely from the PS3, onto a memory card or Flash drive, and then onto the PSP or a PC.  "With regards to PlayTV, you can not transfer content to your PSP, PC, or memory sticks. You can stream live or recorded TV content on your PSP via Remote Play only," said a Sony spokeswoman.

Looks like Sony got their knuckles rapped for the prospect of video sharing so its not surprising that they have removed a feature that lets you stream video to others.

I would bet that if they would implement video sharing, it would be only for the videos you can download from the store. That way they could prevent exactly what you guys are talking about, porn and bootlegs.  On the other hand, custom videos would be the only real reason to use that option, so they would be cutting out a large part of the market.
