They are not available in Canada either, I have had mine since launch, purchased off of ebay.  It is a very nice unit, but the Zune marketplace does not work outside of USA.  Also the "social" aspect of it is pretty much useless if you are the only one that has one. sad.gif

Trust me, the social aspect is still pretty useless unless you're sharing with people you know. I live in a very densely populated city and every so often I'll try searching for other Zunes during my travels, just for kicks. I've had my Zune for almost 6 months and I've never found one, but that's probably because a good percentage of Zune owners have their wireless shut off.

can you use the wireless to transfer songs to and from your PC?

any ideas if there are zune hacks available, like alternative firmware that opens up the hardware a bit?

The new 2.0 firmware due out in a week or so is supposed to support wireless pc syncing.

There are no custom firmwares.  There are a few minor things you can do, a windows registry edit allows the device to show up in My Computer as a mass storage device, alowwing you to manually add files without the use of the Zune software.
