Good Video Capture Device To Convert Vhs To Digital/dvd Format?

I am trying to help a friend who wants to take some old family VHS tapes and wants to put them on DVD

Can anyone recommend a good video capture device to do this?  Also if they don't come with good software could you recommend a program to use for capturing the VHS so it can be made into DVDs.

My mom and dad want to do the same thing, they are dumb as shit when it comes to computers but i want nothing to do with it, as it is going to take DAYS since all of the VHS tapes have to play at normal speed.  we have family vids on VHS tapes set to SLP so they are like 6 hours long.  I am looking for something easy for them to use to accomplish the same thing.
