Evga 8600gt Failure

Hello, I was given this card from a friend who wanted a new computer built, after his previous computer died.

The story was that his PSU started smoking, and that was that.

The CPU from this computer works great, its in my computer now, its an athlon 64 x2 3800+

Anyways, I'm not sure what this part is called I think it might be a capacitor, but its a circular material wrapped in copper wire, and all around the board is brown like it got hot, and the part was found on the bottom of the case.

Heres a picture of a guy who had the part next to it fail, and you can see what I'm talking about.

If I replace this part, would it be safe to put into my computer? I'm currently using an ati x800gto

The part you are referring to is an inductor.  You could try putting it back on, but if it got hot enough to melt the solder and fall off, there is likely some other problem with the card.
