I have never heard of such a config. You would probably be better off using the secondary chain for the 3rd device.

No, it won't work.  Please don't try it.

Without a switch, a maximum of 2 devices can be present on a single IDE channel at one time.

Problem is:

My computer only supports the use of 1 ide cable because the computer uses sata hard drives. I wanted to put a ide hdd in because thats the only hard drive i have! It would be my second hard drive.

Or get a PCI IDE controller card to add more IDE channels.

Ok well it looks like im buying a PCI IDE add on card, i think......

Is this about as cheap as they get?

also im confused i looked closer and noticed 2 ide cables  uhh.gif . Im trying to hook up my 80 gig WD IDE HDD
(80 gig on bottom)
IPB Image

now look there are 2 ribbon cables, there is the one hooked up to the dvd drives and towards the front panel runs a 2 connector IDE connected to what it looks like the switch and then runs into the motherboard? what is the function of this ide line?

Heres what im talking about, i did a quick draw up in paint.

also because i have highspeed internet can i remove the 56k modem right out of the pci socket and pop in the PCI IDE add on card without any drastic or bad changes to windows?

If all you want to do is flash a 360 then you should be fine with the non-bootable 1.

Edit: Sorry, I confused threads. Yes, if you do not want to boot off of it, it should work fine. And, it should flash a 360 drive too smile.gif
