.htaccess Problem

well heres the issue, i have php nuke installed in /nuke/ in my home directory and if i make a .htaccess with "DirectoryIndex /nuke/index.php" it doesnt work. is there any way i can just make it look in the nuke folder. because i think its just trying to load index.php and sometihgn doesnt like it.
