Mariah Carey, John Legend and Kanye West scored eight nominations apiece for the 48th annual Grammy Awards, tying them for the most nods among a pack nominees that was announced Thursday (12/8).
Carey's take includes Album of the Year and Best Contemporary R&B Album nominations for her career-reviving "The Emancipation of Mimi," and Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best Traditional Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song for that album's "We Belong Together."
West's "Late Registration" will square off against Carey's "Emancipation" in the Album of the Year category and is also up for Best Rap Album, while the set's hit single, "Gold Digger," is in contention for Record of the Year and Best Rap Solo Performance.
Legend will vie for the Best New Artist award--as will Ciara, Fall Out Boy, Keane and Sugarland--and is also up for Best R&B Album ("Get Lifted"), while his hit single "Ordinary People" is up for Song of the Year, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.
