Who Are The Strokes?

Man, I keep hearing about The Strokes.  Who in the hell are they?  What kind of music are they?  I guess they have a third album coming and I have never heard of these dudes or dudettes.  BTW, I gave up MTV when they officially became RWTV.  So, please help me understand why I keep hearing their name.

The Stokes are a really cool lo-fi sounding band.  Definately not punk, although I guess they would fit under the category of alternative rock.  Check em out.

I did not want to perform an impersonal search for the answer to a question I wanted a definite answer for.  I was trusting my xbox-scene brethren to enlighten me with their experiences and knowledge of this band of whom I am not familiar.   blink.gif

As gcskate said, they're an indie-rock band. They're from New York and more or less made the NY-music scene popular. Many bands in NY have copied them now. I'd say they were my absolute favourite band when they released their first album, didn't listen much to the second one though since it was almost the same.

Listen to Last night, it was their first single.
