I had a good idea to start a thread containing all kinds of quotes by famous people or just quotes you find very meaningful in some way or another.

I'll start it off by posting a few.

Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is in prison.
-Henry Thoreau

Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.
-Isaac Asimov

Violence is not the answer.  It's the question, and the answer is yes.

My favorites come from Orwells 1984:

Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows.

"WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH"

Sanity is not statistical

And a few others from my other favorite book, A Clockwork Orange:

"Does God want goodness or the choice of goodness? Is a man who chooses to be bad perhaps in some way better than a man who has the good imposed upon him?"

"If a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man."

If the law is of such a nature that it requires you to be an agent of injustice to another, then I say, break the law.

Jester reminded me of these with Orwell.  So good he gets two from a single book a few pages(?) apart.

"ALL ANIMALS ARE EQUAL
BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS."

and

"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."

I'm not saying the book they came from wink.gif
