2000 Honda Cbr 900 (929)

Never had a bike before. Or a licence...

A freind of a friend is selling this bike for $1200. My friend says he just wants to get rid of it and that it's never been dropped.

I can't afford the insurance right now, but it seems like a deal that's "too good to be true." I'm thinking about buying it and garage-ing it 'till next summer.

I'll probably go and see it, this week. If it looks good i'll take it to a mechanic.

Assuming it's not stollen (a possibility with this guy) and the mechanic says it's ok, is there anything i need to know before buying? If it has been dropped or there is damage, do you think it would still be a good deal for a first bike?

Its a little big (engine wise) but not that bad a deal. Make sure it was never stunted or anything, that'll wreak havoc on your front suspension.

Also, find out what kind of work hes had done on it, who did it, etc etc.

"too good to be true"

dudes selling it for $9000 not $1200. How the fuck did my friend come up with $1200? It's such an obscure number.

BTW - Not buying.

Oh well, yeah, dont pay nearly that much for a used bike... you can get a brand new one for almost that much.

Oh well, if you are really interested in a bike look for a 600 or a 750, and eBay Motors works really well, also check TraderOnline.com

well if nothing else insurance wise it is rather large. they like you to start with a 250 or 500cc, then go from there
if your first bike was a 900cc you are most definately a higher risk

A twist of the throttle and youre moving incredibly fast. The margin for error is higher on a smaller engine bike. (Especially a smaller engine bike thats lighter and easier to manuveur. ) As far as Hondas, ehhh. I think most of the bikes are pretty much even now. You could even make the case that Suzuki has taken over as the main sports bikes on the road now.
