It could easily be fake, yet could be real. At $1k+ I wouldn't bother risking it.

aren't dev box's black? also, look where the wires are coming out of the top, the hole that they are coming out of looks VERY unproffesional and hand done. i'd personally say scam (it doesn't help that i don't trust ebay auctions on technolgy from that part of the world though)

Lingjr always seems to have rare, demo units, and dev equipment for sale. I've seen other items for sale by this guy and they've been legit.

Also, he claims it's from Japan. The 'development kit' is in english. And if you'll notice, the DVD drive eject button looks like either it's been crappily replaced, or the console itself has been mistreated. I'm pretty sure it's fake.

uhhh. the eject button only looks wack because it still has the protective film on it...

Those pics are definitely of a dev kit, the real dev kits are in fact white and don't have the sidecar (what you're thinking of are the Debug units, which are a dark grey and have the big hdd thing, they are totally different).

Also, going by the seller himself, who is fairly reputable, I say its ligit.

Also, as far as being in English, you can change the language settings. The fact thet the videomode is NTSC-J confirms that it is japanese.

Its a real dev kit with a 20gb hdd.The wires coming out of the top are for the sidecar unit. And you can connect a DVD Emu thru usb.The latest dev kits have the sidecar and the dvd emu built in and usually come equipped with a 80gb hdd. Also debug units or dev kits are region free, its up to the user to set the region.

The white dev kit on ebay is a prototype, and it usually comes with a 20gb prototype hdd. Also there are white debug units, they look exactly like a retail and are used at trade shows(E3)The grey debug units are the same as the white ones and dont come with a sidecar or the usb dvd emu also. The black dev kits have the sidecar and the dvd emu built in,thats why the hdd looks big. Also Cattykid,I think the sidecar is for kernal debuging.
