Apex Ad1200 Dvd Player
« on: June 27, 2003, 01:31:00 PM »

Hey guys,
Futureshop here is having a Canada day sale and they got the APEX AD100 DVD Player on for $59.99 CAD (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10018149&newdeptid=11&logon=&langid=EN&dept=0&WLBS=fsweb8) . Im thinkin bout picking one up solely for vcd/svcd playback since my xbox cant read cdr  <_<

I know its a cheap player but how does it preform in terms of price/preformance specifically for the vcd/svcd playback.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Anushian

I've got an APEX AD-1100W player... and it is SWEET!!

It plays ANY disc I put in (CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW) and it will play (S)VCD and just about everything esle you can imagine.

It actually supports most MPEG-1s... meaning it doesn't NEED to be VCD compliant.

Only problem I've had is that I can't seem to fast-forward on SVCDs, but I never use them much anyway...

Although... this is the AD-1100W, but I doubt it can be THAT different...

Actually, Apex has sold out lately.... no more SVCD/VCD support in newer models.

Try a Cyberhome 300 - US$50 at Radio Shacks here. Small, and slick, plays EVERYTHING and it's handles progressive scan, too.

Well, I have an old Apex AD-600A (VERY Early model), an AD-703, and an AD-5131 (triple play models).

I like the 5131, but the Cyberhome has me longing for them to release a triple or five -play model.

I bought the little Cyberhome for my Mom and now she can watch my home movies without trouble. The AD-600A didn't like DVD-R or even most SVCDs.

Went to futureshop. Musta waited a good 15-20 minutes from someone from the home entertainment department to come by with a ladder so they could get the player off the shelf. No one came....

Maybe it was for the best, but i just walked outta there. Futureshop used to be decent in cs but now?

i've just bought me 2 of the Apex AD-1200 DVD Players within the past 2 months. i got them from outpost.com, however they just stopped selling them on that site. both of them work great for vcd and svcds, i haven't even used either one of them for regular dvds yet. the only thing that kinda sucks about them is the remote. you gotta be right on at aiming it towards the receiver on the dvd player. other than that i have no complaints on that model.

I have an AD1000, bought it 2 1/2 (or was it 1 1/2? I forget)years ago for ~$65US (which was a really good deal at the time) on a black friday sale at walmart.  It recently quit working with dvds, I know it's something wrong with the laser but before this it has been a great little dvd player.
