I am not sure on the WD diag util. I gave up on WD a long time ago.

I know the Maxtor util does not care what the drive is formated with. All it does is make the drive run it's own self test and reports back what the drive says.

See if WD offers advance replacement. Then you can copy all your data from the old one to the new one before sending the old one back.
