Newbie Question - Xbox Live

I looked around the forums and couldn't find an answer to this, so I decided to ask.  My brother is looking to get Xbox Live and he knows its $50 for the starter kit which includes your first year.  The Xbox site says its the "same rate" for every year after.  Does this mean that it will be always be $50 a year, or will it be a different rate?  Thanks in advance, if anyone knows. :)
