1mb Adsl Is It Worth It?

I have a 512kbps connection at the moment and was just wondering whether it is worth getting 1MB for using XBC?

Obviously the upload will still be 256kbps either way..

Hmm. I may aswel stick with wat ive got then...

256kbps is as high as I can go as a home user anyway.

how can you take off the upload cap?

and wouldn't the isp notice and either fix it or even ban you?

well first off you need a motorola sb4100 modem to do this. higher sb models won't let you do it.

and let me say that i am not uncapped, but my friend is. he has been uncapped for over a year now and has not had any problems. he only uncaps for online play though. the chances are remote that you would get in trouble. if you do it like he does just for xbc or something you should be fine. but if you go and download gb's a day or run an ftp server then you probably will get in trouble.

now he had cable with a 3000/256 connection. with a buisness class config he now has 7000/2000. i have seen people with config's at 10000/10000 which is unbelievable.

i'll pm him about seeing if he can write a tut or if it'd be okay if you contacted him on aim. it really is pretty easy to do.

Would not advise this..Goto dslreports.com and look up uncapping cable modem...You will find a story of our local ispgetting fbi agents involved and crackign down on these guys.  Not a smart thing to do.  I was going to do it and ended up running into story of a guy from my hometown getting caught.  Tlak about a sign.  It is very obvious to isps of whoever does this.  Our isp at the time was brandnew and was not advanced at all but 13 people went down pretty bas.   Even serving prison time.  Would not do..It is obvious to isp and they will prosecute tehse days.  DOnt take the chance.  Also in our jurisdiction they blame the person because it takes bandwidth from the rest of the customers and because uncapping does this they charged felonies instead of misdemeanors...
