good find.  I've been thinking about this too.

The halo installation in halo 1 was referred to as Delta Halo, often mistakenly called halo #4.  The installation in Halo 2 is called Gamma Halo.  The Greek alphabet begins Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma; making Delta Halo and Gamma Halo installations 3 and 4, respectively.

Consider this:

343 Guilty Spark from Delta Halo
343=7^3=7*7*7.  Three sevens and the third Halo.

2401 Penitent Tangent from Gamma Halo
2401=7^4=7*7*7*7  Four sevens and the fourth Halo.

So it follows that the "oracle" of Halo Alpha would be something abstract 7, Halo Beta would be something abstract 49, and Halo Epsilon would be something abstract 16807.

other interested numeric "coincidences"

343 could be read as (3+4)^3, or 777 (three 7's)

The digital root (the number achieved by adding all the digits of a number until you reach a single digit) of 2401 is seven. (2+4+0+1=7)

Master Chief is referred to in the Halo books as John/Spartan 117. 1*1*7=7

The enjoyably frustrating thing about Halo is the more we firgure out, the less we understand.

The Halo in Halo 2 is Delta Halo, not the other way around, but I don't remember Penitent Tangent giving an 'Installation' number for it.  In the first game, 343 GS refers to the Halo as Installation 04.  <
