Sounds like the rubber belt needs cleaning or replacing...

That is a very common design defect that started in Samsung drives for the original Xbox. The axis between the 2 pulleys is not far enough apart to create good drag on the belt. a little dust and grime causes slippage. Phillips made the DVD drive for the original Xbox and the axis was twice as wide as the Samsung, so it never had that problem, were as also all Samsung's did.

Move forward to Xbox 360 and first drive by Samsung suffers from pulley failure again... then Hitachi uses a superior pulleys and works well. Then Phillips changes the design to match Samsung's on the Xbox 360... now Phillips has the pulley slippage as Samsung did....
