Trainers?

I am a newbie and was wondering what is a Trainer
I hear people talking about halo trainers and now I see one for nightfire 007...
What are these trainers and how do work????

Trainers are patches for the default.xbe file of a game that allow you to enable/disable different cheats. The Halo one is amazing, and definalty worth getting, but I havn't tried out the nightfire one yet.
