Need Help With Dvd Drive!
« on: April 08, 2013, 01:12:00 AM »

hey

Your power cable with the probe attached.  One end was probably put in backwards.  So lines for Ground were probably getting fed voltage.  Thus a short

That probably knocked out the 1.8 voltage reg.  And a few resistors - and maybe some electrolytic caps.

I have rebuilt drives that sustained shorts before.  Most important thing now is to recover your drive key.  Hopefully your logic chips aren't toast.  They do design circuit protection around them.  Namely the 0 ohm resistors.

Is this a Phat or Slim?

KnucklesX2 - is one guy whose drive I rebuilt.  I also do other repairs.  Here's post at this site.  Has customer feedback there.

let me know if I can help  ... you'd have to send the drive to me
