Replacing a laser does not require flashing the DVD-ROM.

Question On Replacing A Laser

I would advise you listen to the question you're asking. Why would changing the laser have any impact upon whether or not the drive is flashed?

Question On Replacing A Laser
« Reply #2 on: March 10, 2013, 04:21:00 PM »

Alright good to know and hey so after doing research on what laser I can use as a replacement I found out that the laser in a benq vad6038 is the same as my liteon dg16d2s so lucky I have a extra benq drive that I kept from an old Xbox so I took then both apart and noticed that the liteon laser is a 14xx and the benq laser is a 141x I found out that they are compatible but I'm having this problem when I put the 141 in the liteon and try to slide it up and down the metal bars the bottom of the laser like hits the logic board and won't let's the laser slide! What do I do?

You might have some alignment off.

But generally when the laser assembly is in the down position; it will run into the logic board.

Laser in the Up position should clear the logic board.

Just so you know .... I have a repair thread here.  I offer repairs and customers have left responses

Is the Laser in the Up or Down position ?

I said in the Down position it will run into the Logic board.  That's Ok - natural.

In the UP - it clears the Logic board
So which is it?   .....  help me - help you

Well - check your guide rails.  That the anchors are correct and the screws tightened down.
Check that the worm motor shaft guide is seated right.

To put the Laser in full upright  .... close the disc tray - then turn the cogs some more to bring the laser up.

It should also be fairly close to the spindle motor.  Like only 3 or 4 mm gapping.

There are some other alignment screws.  You shouldn't have needed to mess with those in switching the lasers.  But if you did that could be the problem.

Its tough to give you the exact answer; when its not here in front of me.
Who knows - maybe a minor structure is broke.

If you can't solve it  ... you can consider sending it to me.

If you post pictures of what you've got so far it'd be a big help. It sounds like wilgo45 knows his way round the guts of these drives so he might be able to spot the issue straight away.
