Softmod Hiccup
« on: September 24, 2013, 07:37:00 PM »

I was modding an XBOX v1.1 for a friend, I used Kingroaches nDure 3.1 and xboxHDM 1.9 to do the softmod.

I i did what I always do, build the exploit, make the xboxhdm disk, and hotswap the HDD to a computer on error code 11 or 12.

Once I got the HDD unlocked, I used the 4th option in the nDure install script to backup the C: drive.
Then I went about installing the softmod (option 1)

About halfway through installing the softmod (step 2 I think) A warning appeared that said the HDD ran out of space.

The softmod finished installing and the xbox boots into UnleashX however the audio pops/cracks and the default MS dashboard wont load.

I made a backup of the eeprom and copied the backup of the C: drive made by ndure in 'E:\backups' to my computer

Is there any way I can restore the MS Dashboard?
I built another xboxhdm disc with the backup of the C: partition and the current E: partition and was planning to use this to build a new HDD from scratch, would this even work?

I figured because this backed up 'C:' partition was created before the softmod was installed after building the new HDD I would have to re-mod the XBOX due to the backup I have being unmodded.

Or is there a better way fix this issue?

get a sofdmod installer disk like hexen "heimdalls xbox engineering disk" and burn it to dvd-r at 4x or slower

boot the xbox with that .

now go to admin tools and file explorer
on the left window scroll to C and enter it
delete the contents of C:
"DO NOT RESTART THE XBOX"
press the right sholder button to move to the right hand window.
go to D:\stockfiles\C\
copy all the folders and files in the c folder.
(they will populate the c drive on the left)
DO NOT RESTART THE XBOX.

Use back to get back to the main hexen menu.
select softmod dools.
select krazies 1.1.1 softmod 1 click installer.
select SC exploit (pal or ntsc depending on your location)
Follow on screen instructions.
DO NOT RESTART THE BOX
It wil do its thing and move files make back ups and so on.
you will get t a new window Use tha back up eeprom option
"DO NOT RESTART THE XBOX"
when the eeprom is backed up select the return to menu option
"DO NOT RESTART THE XBOX"
now select install softmod..
Follow all on screen instructions.
it will tell you soft mod is installed.
Remove the hexen dvd
and restart the xbox..
After you do that you will be taken to a new screen and you have to pres A this will enable shaddow C.

you will be softmodded audio files will have been replaces, the ms dash will be available and it will be updated.

Hey thanks man...

Just so that I cant possibly screw this up further Im going to unlock the drive with the EEPROM backup I made Clone the drive with 'dd' and then relock the drive. That way If I screw it up I should be able to just Unlock, 'dd' the image onto the drive and try again.

First off I have the HDD password/EEPROM backed up to multiple locations
and I have a 'dd' image of the HDD so I can revert back to the broken UnleashX install unlimited times.

Ive hit a bit of a speedbump

After getting to the part of backing up the EEPROM it fails wile trying to load 'e:\backups\....\evoxdash.xbe
I cant continue the installation unless the backup is made.

Any help?

ok if you can go back to hexen the main screen that has ftp access and a file explorer.
You can make the E:\backups folder and put the eeprom in there..
(then skip the make eeprom part)

you could also manually move the dashboard to where it wants to be...
(and make the eeprom)

im sorry for the really basic reply its 2 am and i was coming to make a quick post then i was off to bed. ust saw this so i came to reply fast.

I just ended up using king roaches 3.1 installer. And that didn't require the EEPROM backup.
Right now unleash dash is working along with the stock ms dash.

The audio doesn't pop anymore and the console seems to run just fine. I used chimp to clone the HDD to a 250GB WD blue and everything seems to work great. Thanks for the help!
