All The Links Are Dead.
« on: July 08, 2012, 02:18:00 AM »

I've been searching for file after file and I'm finding nothing but dead links.

A lot of posts link to xbox-saves.com, which no longer exists

a lot of files of course are hosted on sites that no longer exist, like megaupload

and even on the main page for xbox-scene.com many of the downloads don't work.

How am I supposed to get files?

Google for most, #xbins for others.

As long as it's within the rules, ask in a forum and you'll get a topical link.

What files are you looking for?

On the subject of xbins, I can't FTP at all, not even with auto

Can you offer any help on that? I hate being so completely without such a major resource.

I've never had much luck with auto-xbins, even back in the day.

I'd stick to doing it properly, using an IRC and FTP client.

What specific error do you get when doing it this way?  I forget if xbins needs PASV (passive) mode disabled in your FTP client, but that's a place to start, too.

I have no idea how to configure advanced settings in any FTP program yet. The most I've ever done is use FileZilla to FTP HTML files to web sites.

Go into your settings on the FTP program and set it to Active instead of Passive. I don't know why, but xbins refuses to allow me on when I'm in passive mode.

After a lot of messing around in the settings I got it to work.

This is a bit needlessly complex.

In its defense, it's supposed to be.

Such a resource, unregulated, would not be sustainable.  The process is as much designed to keep it secure as it is to monitor bandwidth and make sure no one person go nuts downloading from it.

As far as configuring an FTP client, you'll need experience changing passive and active modes when you try to FTP into any Xbox dash (varies by dash)
