The Xbox and the laptop have to have different IP addresses.......

Try:

PC
IP 192.168.0.2
Sub 255.255.255.0
Domain? 192.168.0.1

Xbox

IP 192.168.0.3
Sub 255.255.255.0
Domain? 192.168.0.1

I think the last entry is for the domain, I forget. Turn the laptop on and then wait a minute. Turn the Xbox on.

There's no Domain entry. You're thinking of either DNS or the Gateway, both of which are only required if you want your systems to be able to navigate out of the local network (eg for internet access).

What dashboard is the console running? Is the console modified?
