What Is The Best Program For Dvd To Avi?

Xbox soft modded. Check.
XBMC installed. Check
Movie collection on server for viewing.... here is where I need some opinions.
I have converted a couple of movies into avi and iso format and put them on my server. They both look great, but the space difference is night and day. Iso takes up about 4.4 gb whereas avi takes up about 1.4 gb or less. Does anyone know of any fast programs out there to convert a movie to avi as I prefer the space savings of avi format. I currently have used AutoGK but it takes roughly 2 hours to convert. Is there anything faster?
