Can't Ftp Into Xbmc, But Can Acces Pc Through Smb.
« on: April 04, 2005, 05:15:00 AM »

I have the latest version of XBMC, 4-1-2005 distribution.
From my pc, I can't ftp into my xbox running XBMC, using FlashFXP, or anything.
But when in XBMC, I can goto SMB network, and can access all the shared files on my pc's.

What the hell is wrong?

In XBMC I have the network settings set to Dashboard default, and I CAN ftp into my xbox when using my dashboards.
I have "enable ftp server" and "enabled web server set to true.

I dont get the xml files... where do I set the ftp username and password?
How does the Web Server work?
I currently use my xbox as a web server with any other dashboard, and just forward port 21 to my xbox with my router, then use my main username and password to access my xbox from anywhere and host files. But how does this whole xboxfilezilla ish work?

I want to be able to ftp into my xbox running xbmc with FlashFXP.
I want to be able to use my xbox as an online server, but have a separate username and password, that can only READ files on the F drive.
How can this be done? I have messed around with the XML files forever and a half and can't figure it out.

I have read countless threads and none of them have helped me whatsoever.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanx,
-Danny <

Ya, same here, but I've deleted my xml file and used the one that came with it, and it still doesnt work. Even when i dont change any settings, only enabled ftp server and all that necessary ish, but even when I dont change anything in the xml file manually, just from the XBMC UI, it still doesnt work.

The wierdest thing is that I can use xbmc's smb netowrk share thingy to read/write to/from any computer that is on the same network, but I can't ftp into the xbox from any of those computers.

:grr: AGH!! This sucks! :grr: <

The info is all in the sticky in this forum (Check my sig)

Basically you need to edit the filezilla.xml in XBMC dir and the passwords are not stored in plain text.......

Visit this page and it will generate a hash for you from the password you give it - then copy and paste this into filezilla.xml:

Hola,

This happened to me too last night, in my never ending "tweaking" and such, somehow i changed something on my xbox and i couldn't ftp in, but my XBMSP server was still there and everything else was fine.  Only thing i couldn't do was ftp and i had no idea how i would have changed anything with ftp.  although I did remember Changing xbmc from dashboard default to dhcp (don't know why I did it)

I was about to get VERY huffy until i figured i'd check my IP address in evox, well the last number changed from .3 to .4.  So, i changed it in flashFXP and it worked right away.

dunno if this has much to do with your problem, if not i shut up now...

This is most likely what I need to read, although I've already read the entire faq and manual at xboxmediacetner.de but I probably just need to read it again. And I would if their site would fucking work on my pc. It isn't loading, the forums are working fine but the main site is loading at all...

Do you honestly think that I'd post a question about something that was in a sticky? I've read fucking everything and can't find shit that will help me.

Oh, and this isn't some stupid fucking mistake like a damn IP change. I've checked everything hundreds of times over the past week.

So any help would be much appreciated.

Ya I understand, I'm just kinda pissed that I can't ftp into my xbox using xbmc. I want to use it as my main dashboard, but can't if I can't ftp into it. I also want to be able to have a seperate username and password that can only have read the F drive, no writing or any other drives. That way I can use that user:pass to refer to files that I have uploaded on my xbox (which runs as a server, but I currently have to put my user:pass, so somebody could easily login and delete everything on my xbox :o ).

But as for the filezilla.xml file, I edited it, making comon sence changes like username/password, but nothing is working, I even tried leaving the md5 password it had as default which is "xbox" but that didn't work. So then I tried using the xml that came with it w/o changing anything, and it still didn't work.

I'm so lost....

Maybe if someone could E-mail me their xboxmediacenter.xml and filezill.xml files that they have working for ftp'ing. I'd HIGHLY appreciate it!

I have even tried another person's working FileZilla Server.xml file, and when I load XBMC with it, it just freezes on a Black Screen...

Anyone know what's wrong?

Also, in the log file, non of the IP's stated are correct in any situation. Where did it get those from? <

Ok... with just using the FileZilla Server.xml file that the app came with, If the IP address is 192.168.208.12 what should I use for username and password to successfully FTP into XBMC?

here is the XML file that comes with XBMC

So if my xbox's IP is 192.168.208.12, what user/pass should I use to login through FTP?

I've tried, the following user:pass ; xbox:xbox, xbox:xbmpzilla, test:xbmpzilla , text:xbox. I've also tried logging in annonymously, and non of those work.

UGH!!

So, you have a router @ 192.168.0.1 using 255.255.255.0 as subnet, and your Xbox's IP is 192.168.0.102, and your PC is 192.168.0.101?

So from 192.168.0.101 you ftp into 192.168.0.102 and your PC thinks that it is FTp'ing to 192.168.208.12?

Is that right? I take it that the 192.168.208.12 ip is the bogus ip?

What FTP client are you using BTW?

Well.. this is the odd thing. I am not at home right now, I am spending the week at my older brother's house. He doesn't have a router, he gets free T1 internet access through his Town House Management or whatever they are. But I can't change any router settings, it's all through the main server. I am just using a HUB.
So at my brothers, where I am right now, the default Gateway is 192.168.208.1
The subnet is 255.255.255.0
The PC's IP is 192.168.208.3
The XBOX's IP is 192.168.208.12
__________________________

At my house, I have a router, which is 192.168.0.1 so thats the default gateway.
My PC's IP is 192.168.0.101
My Xbox's IP is 192.168.0.102.

I haven't been home with that setup for almost a week now. So why in the hell is it showing up in the log file? Right now, it should show up as the first setup i listed, Cuz I'm at my bro's...

EDIT: Oh, and I'm using FlashFXP
