Screen Placement
« on: September 26, 2005, 12:26:00 PM »

Hey,

I have moved the two controller ports from the left-hand side of the xbox and placed them above the right-hand ones.

I am soon to purchase an X3 CE chip and would like an lcd screen on the xbox.

I was wondering whether the lcd screen would fit on the left hand side where the old ( 1 and 2) controller ports used to be, just underneath the dvd tray.

This would be an awsome mod! it would take a lot of work but would be worth it.

If you can help me, please do.

Thanks Again.

Yo u mean a hip gear LCD screen i assume.
hip gear does not fit under DVD drive i know this for FActual information.

follow my tut to put the ports in the middle of the faceplate and then put a hip gear on the left of the panel. thats what i gotta do.

thats my TUT, definitely a must if you really want alot of features in the front panel.

ask ubernewb for dimensions of the xlcd, or check out xecuters sites.

and if you really want it looking nice in the left part of the front panel you gotta cut the back of the video and ethernet inset part out.

well if you're asking whether or not it'll fit.. then yes, it will. but it's gonna take a little more planning because you're going to have to deal with the depth of it. i know it's pretty thin, but on the left side it sticks up far enough to give you issues with the placement of the dvd-rom.

if you want the lcd to be flush with the case, you're better off moving the dvd-rom back a little bit and just extending the bezel. you could leave the dvd-rom as is and have the lcd itself come forward out of the case a little.. just build a small plastic housing for it, kinda like this:

(dig my almighty ms paint skills!! lol

or you could look into making your case a slim, which would get rid of the dvd-rom altogether and give you more than enough room for the lcd.. so much room that you could do something cool with it, like mine:

and another example of a frenched lcd:

if you have a spare case that part comes in handy for making the inset for an LCD screen. simple as cut and bondo.

that little recessed area is too wide and too short for the xlcd.. believe me, i thought of that first. in fact, looking at the back of the case is what gave me the idea for the thing ;)

I tried with a LCD i had similar to the XLCD but it must have different dimension because with this LCD you can cut out the "recessed" part at the back of the xbox and cut out most of the inside, have a little border and it fits perfectly.

but ill take your word that the XLCD does not work with it.

By the way ubernewb, with your ultra slim xbox (smaller height and width) you can fit the motherboard, PSU, and 2 hard drives.  You can also fit all the components of a normal xbox if you dont cut it down height wise. im in the middle of making mine, except i forgot the bondo at my other house.

im so amazed at how much you can actually cut to get it so small.

And to mount the power supply i mounted it down the left side of the motherboard, left og the GPU heatsink.  I unsoldered the connector where the plug actually plugs into and bondo'ed it to the original spot it usually would be in, and extended the wires to the power supply itself.

i also have the hard drive on top of the CPU heatsink, fits perfectly.

anyways, just rambling with ideas.

im glad i didnt speel anything wrong, i hope.

Just Finished this mod, the screen fits fine in the left-hand side of the front panel. all i did was:

move the dvd-drive backwards a little
extend the dvd-drive face so it matched up with the rest of the front panel
cut out the space in the front panel to receive the lcd's outa casing which the actual lcd fits into, and filled in the gaps with filler
cut away enough of the xbox case and metal shield so that the panel inc fitted screen fitted properly to rest of xbox.

I'll post pics when i can.

Thanks for the help guys.

I also just did this mod, as well.  These pictures are a little old.
Here's what I cut out of the bottom and DVD drive to make the screen and controller ports fit.

Here's a picture of everything fitting!
