Mobile Video Installers... I Got A ?
« on: March 23, 2005, 07:09:00 PM »

so i got a in dash sony xav-7w and im ready to install it along w/ an xbox in my car for media purposes.  im having one problem though.  there is this green wire that comes from the receivers wiring harness and needs to be tied to the e-brake.  its a safety feature thats sopposed to prevent you from watching the scrren while the car is in motion.  i have heard that there is a way to bypass this feature but i have no clue what it is.  does anyone own this unit?  how did you bypass this feature. any heelp would be appreciated. <

You need to ground it out.

Once you do so, the video will prompt. <

Yes.

The only brand that makes it difficult is Alpine.

With them you have 2 wires, 1 for the hand brake, one for the foot brake.

You have to give the foot brake wire 12v. Then while still giving the footbrake wire 12v, you have to give the handbrake wire ground, then you release the 12v from the foot brake. (you have to leave ground to the handbrake wire in order to view the video).

And that has to be done everytime the vehicle is turned on. <

But with yours all you have to do is give the Ebrake wire ground, and leave it there forever. <

Yeah PAC makes one (TR-1 I believe) and there's some nameless ones on eBay.

No, I'm not an installer. But I was in the industry for some time. I worked a high end home and car audio/video chain for a bunch of years. <

Mobile Video Installers... I Got A ?
« Reply #12 on: March 26, 2005, 05:24:00 AM »

ok so after 2 days of wires, switches, and the like i finally got the screen, xbox, and power inverter in the car.  i had both front seats and the whole back seat out, along w/ the center console and 1/2 the dash.  i have a extension cord to the dvd eye deal in the bottom din (screen on the top one).  xbmc is my default dash and in that lies the problem i am at now.  the power inverter i bought has a cooling fan on it so i installed a switch to shut it off whenever its not in use.  the deal is, my xbox gets no power during that time so the damn clock on xbmc keeps on resetting.  is there any way to stop this from happening without having to keep the inverter on at all times (theres no way in hell im messin up that optima battery)?  i have heard people mention some kind of standby power.  but i have no clue exactly how it works or if my request of keeping xbmc's clock as the right time is reasonable enough to do.  any and all help would be appreciated. :) <

every time i turn off the inverter its like i unplug the xbox from the wall.  what im tring to do is figure out a way if if i can make the xbox think its plugged in all the time.  the power inverter i have is a 400 watt that has a cooling fan running on it while in operation.  that will eventually run out my battery.  all i want is to have xbmc have the right time on it every time i jump in my car without leaving the inverter on at all times.  sounds simple but i have no idea how. <
