You don't have to have a big toggle switch.  There are many different variations of switches.  Just look around to find one that will suit your needs but maake sure it will handle to current your want to run through it. <

you can just switch off the yellow wire not every freaking wire. i just made a switch that switched of the yellow and red wires to be safe, but im sure it will wokr with just the yellow wire. <

+12V is used to spin the platters
+5V is used for the electronics

I don't think you can just switch the +12V because the drive would still be active and think it is dead since it can't spin up its platters.  If you are wanting to only switch one wire you should be able to switch the +5V but the platters will still be spinning (I think) thus creating heat.  So the best way would be to switch both the +5V and +12V lines. <

Go to radioshack.  Look at the DPDT switches and find one you like.  Then wire up the +5 and +12.  You should definately do both not just the +12.  Laptop hard drives for instance, only use the +5.  I did this for my brother's box and the switch is hardly noticible.  It fit fine between the monitor and nic ports and is no bigger then the switch I use for split TSOPs.  I have never tried the 23rd wire thing, the +12 and +5 just seems like a cleaner method. <

just use a dpdt switch.
Hope your lucky and get compatible HDD.
I had no end of problems getting mine woking.
Recomend ata100 cable 80cm with 4 connectors (not for speed just for reliabilty)

But "woot" it does work now.

If your having both HDD in the one case you only want to power one at a time as they get mighty hot.

Be prepared for some serious dvd-drive and case modding to get it all to bit inside

Id recomend putting an 80mm fan in running 12v for better cooling my cpu sits around 61-61 degrees C because of less air flow with 2 drives.
