"unable To Ff/rw In This Stream"
« on: March 25, 2005, 12:24:00 AM »

I've been having this problem for just a couple of days and never seen it before.
I'm getting "Unable to FF/RW in this stream" when i try to FF/RW newer XviD-compressions. Most of the times the video stops after aprox five minutes.
Otherwise the video and audio works fine.

Is there a new type of compression out there that XBMC cant/dont handle?

I've tryed two different XBMC-releases now with the same result.

FF/RW is disabled in any stream that can't be seeked in. One example of that is corrupted AVI (ex. not finished dowloaded). Avi's have an index at the end of them, and if that isn't in place, seeking can't be done.
It has nada to do with what compression is used, only what container (avi/mkv/ogg).. If you run the files throu a stream copy using virtualdub, i'm betting they will work.

The files works fine in VLC-player and works with some problems in BS-player.

The weird is that i've been using XBMC for over a year now and never even heard of this problem, so how can so many recent downloaded files be corrupted? ...if they are corrupted.
I know that they're finished downloaded.

I only seem to have this problem with .avi-files.

*polite BUMP*

I think it's weird that i'm the only one who's having this problem  :P

I've followed elupus advise to 'stream copy' but VirtualDub wont open those XviD's.
Could it be my connection that suddenly's acting up in some way and creating losses in the index?

It's starting to get really frustrating now. XBMC only reads ~15% of all .avi-files - or it reads them but stops after five min.
No problems with .mpg-files at all.

well, virtualdub needs vfw codecs to open xvid files (orignal divx codecs has it and ffdshow if you enabled it in settings). It seems abit weird that that many files you dowload have this problem. You sure you let them finish completly? as the index is at the end, you have to get the entire file.

How are you playing the files btw? smb, ccx, local, relax(hope not)
