Grandma's Guide To Installing Uix
« on: March 09, 2005, 03:18:00 PM »

1.
Download:

01.03.05.user.interface.x.dash.rar
01.03.05.user.interface.x.dash.audio.and.fonts.rar
Replacement.UIX.XBE(MAKES.UIX.WORK.WITH.ALL.BIOSES.EVEN.1.6).rar

get all of them!

2.

Make a folder on your pc named UixInstall (or something you'll remember).

Extract "01.03.05.user.interface.x.dash.rar" to it. there will be a readme a folder called "user.interface.x.dash" and an xbe named "uix.xbe".

Extract "Replacement.UIX.XBE.rar" to the same folder overwriting the existing one with the new one and rename to "evoxdash.xbe"

Extract "01.03.05.user.interface.x.dash.audio.and.fonts.rar".  Place the extracted audio and fonts folders inside the "user.interface.x.dash" folder.

3.

 Now still inside the "user.interface.x.dash" folder browse to the "system" folder (\user.interface.x.dash\user.interface.x.dash\system) and open "uix.ini" with notepad.

here you need to set paths to your applications/emulators/games etc.  You will see near the bottom something like this:

Path=apps
Name=Applications

Path=apps is what the name of the folder on your xbox harddrive is called (could be different for you) Name=Applications is The title for it you will see in the dash.  No need to set drive paths - UIX scans all drives for your set paths ie e:\games. f:\games etc.

hers what mine looks like:

[Applications]
Path=apps
Name=Applications
[Dashboards]
Path=dashboards
Name=Dashboards
[Emulators]
Path=emus
Name=Emulators
[Games]
Path=games
Name=Games

Make your changes and save the file then Ftp all of that to the root of C drive (four files will fail to copy this is normal, and intentional) You should have just copied about 113 megs to you Cdrive.

Your Cdrive should look like this:

heres what it looks like installed alongside the original msdash on C
(IMG:http://members.optusnet.com.au/gasclown/install2.jpg)

Note: for UIX make sure all yr actual apps/games/emus/dashes are in there own folders inside your set paths not in subfolders. all xbe's should be named default.xbe.

I think the reason to that is, because the fonts and audio folder will always stay the same. So while the other files and folders change, it would be better if they would cut audio and font folders out. So youre not dling 30megs, your only dling 15megs(not sure on how big the size is). You got it?

that's for newbs.  you could always edit the bios and have it point to a certain location for the dash file. but that's for us smart guys <

Thank you so much for the tut. I couldn't of figured it out w/o it, this coming from a noob.

But i have a question. I download a skin and the directions said to apply green-nocellwalls-orbs. I download the tHc file with it and it says to patch it. What does that mean, what is patching.

the skin is http://www.allxboxskins.com/vote-comment/v...ash&display=yes

Please help

lol i told u b4, PIDS PURPLE DASH is a M$ Dash skin, NOT a UIX skin

It patches the .xbe, but DONT DO THAT, cos it is for the m$ dash or tHc NOT UIX

Each dash [UIX, tHc] uses a different skin config, uix uses .xbx files with presets in it, while tHc uses a patch for the .XBE

I can make it a UIX skin if u want it that bad, all u gotta do is ask...

Well, its fairly easy

You can open the hexbe patch up with hexbe, get the color offsets and write them in with notepad, then fill in the gaps with that "DIGITAL BLOOD" app

thats how i like to port skins

lol digital blood makes it so much easier to make skins for UIX, my first skin was written with notepad.

It isnt done yet, it is way too pink and blue but i'll eventually get around to it, after my hangover... <

The skin keep on turning up like a POS

[Its either me or i didnt really try]

I think i'd better leave this to PID or Gasclown, as its PID's skin and Gasclown is the bomb when it comes to skinning
