i've dumped the game twice, and my shaders were identical both times after patching.

anyone else with an MD5?

i managed to work out the problem!

apparently win_patch.exe is patching Shaders\xeshaders.bin incorrectly.

instead, i used KKPatcher.exe from xorloser's X360 Shader Tools

i ended up with the same MD5 as ILLusions0fGrander and i no longer suffer from the black screen.  happy.gif

there were 3 additional bytes patched using KKPatcher.exe.  additionally, some bytes seems to be shifted with win_patch.exe as a result of some extra 0x0A bytes.   blink.gif

Fantastic! This information should be sticked somewhere, since it's the "King_Kong_Shader_Expliot_for_XELL.rar" package most people are using! I now have Linux running just fine. Yay!

Never occurred to me to ask for an MD5 signature. That would have revealed a lot. I got the same results as posted above:

Original NTSC xeshaders.bin: dccc01ffe4c0b0a056aab4342319a5fc

Correct NTSC patched xeshaders.bin: 13d026a7c1ae9c1330f607ff968b5678 (using KKPatcher.exe)

Incorrect NTSC patched xeshaders.bin: 3d2bb5af978b444525fff79f9eb7e941 (using win_patch.exe)

So for anyone reading this thread experiencing the same problem:
- Download: http://www.xbins.org/King_Kong_Shader_Expliot_for_XELL.rar , and extract the file "shader.bin" from the package.

- Download: http://www.xorloser.com/X360ShaderTools.zip , and extract "KKPatcher.exe" from the package.

- Apply the shader to your kingkong ISO with the new patcher. (NOT win_patch.exe! )

Checked my PAL disc and the MD5 of xeshaders.bin is the same, so the same notes on MD5 signatures above apply.

The command to use the patcher is:

KKPatcher.exe YourKingKongISO.000 shader.bin

Easiest method is to make a new .txt file, and copy the following text into it:
CODE

@echo off
kkpatcher.exe image.000 shader.bin
pause
exit

Save the text file as "apply.bat" (this assumes you are smart enough to disable hiding of known file extensions in Windows)

Place the apply.bat, shader.bin, KKpatcher.exe, and your KingKong ISO all in the same folder. Rename your KingKong ISO: "image.000", and then edit your ".dvd" file with Notepad, and change the filename in there also to "image.000"

Run the apply.bat, and confirm the patch completed. Burn as usual with the .dvd file.

thanks alot!  I am going to try this tonight.  I had given up on this actually...Nice that people shared how they resolved this. My 360 started giving me 3rod.  this is after making tons of dl frisbees trying to run this exploit.   I used xclamp fix and it's working ok....

Thanks so much everyone!  It worked first try!  Now I am trying to get a program called linmugen to boot?  Does anyone have any ideas?  I was trying to get my thumbdrive open in Gnome but alas no luck.  It is detected at initialization though which is odd.   But seriously thanks to everyone who shared insight experience on this exploit!  Here is a vid I made of the hack:

KKPatcher and win_patch don't work on King Kong NTSC/J image.
Their just stop with some errors like these:

patching filename at 7a84ecea...patch failed: expected 14 and found 55
patching filename at 7a84ed06...patch failed: expected ffffffac and found 55
patching filename at 7a84ed22...patch failed: expected 02 and found 57
patching shader at ae678000...
insert shader size: 3896
incorrect shader database ID
done

How can I inject Shader.bin into King Kong NTSC/J image manually?
Where should I place it and where should I edit in the image file?
Although I checked the offsets that KKPatcher pointed to and there were exactly correct ! I mean 14 in 7a84ececa and ...
I don't know why KKPatcher and win_patch don't work on this damn image!
Thanks

I have your same problem, they just don´t work, but (I´m a noob on xbox 360) maybe xeshaders.bin could be replaced by a xeshaders.bin patchet from a US KK. What do you think about it?

OK, I have followed everything closely and am hoping for some help trouble shooting. When I place my patched KK image in the drive, KK boots and goes to the start menu, I press start, instead of going to a completely black screen it  goes to a loading screen then the first frame of the game startup, then freezes, the DVD tray opens. Is this correct, because the vids I have seen look like right after the start menu it goes completely black? I then put in my Gentoo LiveCD Beta 2, I hear it spin up for a second, then nothing... any trouble shooting anyone can offer?

I should add I have a TS drive. But this should not be an issue anymore correct?
